At Bierre, life revolved around the feudal castle, later replaced by the baronial hall, built by a powerful official of Louis XVI. As in villages, it's elsewhere that the crops grown are determined and the landscape bears the traces of many
switches from stock farming to ce real production and back again. Today, farmers are a small minority, and if the population remains stable, it's a result of service industries in neighbouring towns and the arrival of city-dwellers.
