REPUBLIC DEMOCRATIC OF CONGO • 65′

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH by Elisé Sawasawa

January 2025, Goma, capital of North Kivu in the DRC, falls to rebels. It took only four days for the M23 to defeat the Congolese army, the armies of Kenya, Uganda, Tanzania, Malawi, South Africa, Burundi, mercenaries and militias under the watchful eye of the largest UN base, MONUSCO.

ENOUGH IS ENOUGH bears witness to the incredible vitality of the Congolese people in the throes of the tragedy of an endless war.

As a resident of Goma, capital of North Kivu in the DRC, and witness to historical injustice, I decided to pick up a camera to show the indignity imposed on an entire generation of Congolese people, my generation. I film my brothers and sisters in arms, those who, like me, refuse to disappear into silence. Some of my friends have chosen to arm themselves to protect their families, others are involved in humanitarian work, and some, like slam poet Eliane Feza, composer Jérémie Skill2, and performer Francis, are fighting in other ways through art, slam poetry, dance, and music.

Elisé Sawasawa was born in 1994 in the Democratic Republic of Congo. Self-taught, he quickly developed a passion for images and trained in photography. To date, Elisé has made a medium-length documentary and four short films including LE SCIEUR selected for the JCC Carthage 2023.

He is currently finalizing his first long-feature documentary ENOUGH IS ENOUGH and is also directing two others documentaries KIVU and GUARDIANS OF THE EQUATOR.TROP C’EST TROP, his first feature film produced by JBA Production and Molakisi Films, was selected for the 2026 Berlinale, followed by around thirty other selections worldwide; he is currently working on his last two films, KIVU and LES GARDIENS DE L’ÉQUATEUR.
