TUNISIA • 42′
a film by PIERRE-YVES MOULIN
A trip through northern Tunisia, between Hamamet and Cape White, in the heart of autumn. The hotels are empty, but the days are still warm and inviting. This is a travel sketchbook, drawn page by page as the jouney continues and new situations are encountered, revealing little by little the hidden faces of the country. In Tunis, in Raf-Raf, a small fishing village, or again in Hamamet, a tourist mecca, the camera focuses on little snatches of everyday life: a snack bar selling a traditional Tunisian soup, a moped repairman, young students singing, the official radio station praising the merits of the President, etc. The camera’s eye is sometimes sharp and critical, often full of tenderness for a country which deserves more than the image it is making for itself to attract the tourist. The exotic evaporates in contact with everyday events, leaving the way for real discovery.
